From Swing Bridge in Belize City, I caught a ferry to San Pedro on Ambergris Caye, the largest of the Belizean cayes, or islands. There are two main ferry lines—the popular Chinese-owned Belize Express and the older Belizean-owned Caye Caulker Water Taxi. Belize Express is definitely the way to go, given its online ticketing, express taxis, onboard wifi and modern decor. Although, if time had been of the essence, I would have forgone the hour-long water taxi and chosen the 10-17 minute flights through Tropic Air or Maya Island […]
In Amritsar: Amritsar is a touristy city near the border of Pakistan. I visited here on the recommendation from a good friend and am so happy I did. While the city is smaller than most of the popular destinations in India, there are two sites that make the eight hour train ride from New Delhi worthwhile. Every day at 4:30 pm, there is a ceremony at Wagah border, where India and Pakistan meet. Wagah border is an hour by car […]
Liechtenstein can make for a fun day trip—or longer if you plan to ski at Malbun or hike one of the many mountainous trails. This tiny Alpine country has a population of 35,000 and the highest gross domestic product per person in the world. Enjoying Liechtenstein’s lovely vistas—especially from Schloss Gutenberg in Balzers—is a perfect and peaceful way to spend a summer afternoon.
The village of Leymen, France is a 44 minute train ride away from Basel, Switzerland. There’s something special about being able to escape to another country just for lunch! Dennis and I wandered briefly before stopping in the only place that looked open. We figured we would be joining the old men eating under umbrellas on the front porch, but once we walked inside of the restaurant, our mouths dropped in awe when we saw how the dining room opened […]
Took a ferry to Colonia from Buenos Aires for a fun day trip! Went on a guided tour through the Historic Quarter of the City of Colonia del Sacramento which was deemed a UNESCO World Heritage Site for being a well-preserved European colonial settlement from the end of the 17th century The loveliest buildings are in the old quarters where the prostitutes used to work and live Rode a rickety bike along the coastline with Agustina and Josefina before going for a swim!
