With only 12 days and much to see across Colombia, it was a toss up between flying into the newly transformed Medellin or the capital city. I took the recommendation of my friend Nadia and decided on Bogotá. The best city views are atop Cerro de Monserrate. Beloved as a religious site, locals make the arduous climb to attend mass, dine at the many restaurants or watch the sunset. I took the funicular up, which had full cars even at 7:30 am on a Saturday […]
Since spending three weeks in Buenos Aires in 2012, I’ve been dreaming of a return trip. Finally, the opportunity came! I felt giddy, retracing my steps in Palermo, Recoleta, Monserrat, San Telmo, and La Boca. I find the city to be so photogenic… My friends and I arrived to Buenos Aires from Uruguay by Buquebus ferry. The vessel had an electric blue plush carpet, which was in pristine condition since all passengers were required to wear shoe nets. But more importantly, […]
Called the Monaco of South America, Punta del Este is a Uruguayan resort town growing in popularity. I booked Michelangelo Apartamentos to be centrally located on the peninsula—between the golden sands and tame waters of Playa Mansa and the khaki sands and rough waves of Playa Brava. The 11th floor views couldn’t be beat! The peninsula divides Rio de la Plata and the Atlantic Ocean. Our apartment—located near Terminal Punta Este and The Hand—was especially convenient since my friends and I arrived from Montevideo […]
Miraflores District is an upscale neighborhood in Lima. If you get a chance to visit, treat yourself to a stroll on the cliffs overlooking the South Pacific coastline. Start at the attractive Larcomar mall complex and work your way north toward Parque del Amor. From there, you can take Malecón back to the heart of the district. Parque Kennedy is at the heart of Miraflores. The park bustles with activity from morning ’til night, especially on holidays like Día del Trabajo (Labor Day) on May 1st. […]
I immersed myself in the fascinating—and at times, heart-wrenching—history of Berlin by taking a four-hour English language walking tour through Insider Tour. Many of the sites that were bombed during WWII were restored—but I appreciate that the effects of the bombing were left untouched as a constant reminder of the tragedies war causes. After the tour, I paid a visit to Museum Island, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Right in the center of the city, this island is home to five […]

During my time in Madrid, I lived in Atocha. Everyday leaving my house, I would walk past the modern art museum, Museo Reina Sofia. I went more than once to visit Picasso’s famous work, Guernica. On my way to and from Estudio Sampere—my Spanish language school—I walked through Retiro, my favorite park. I found any and every reason to walk through Plaza Mayor. It’s buzzing with activity! It’s the heartbeat of the city. Right off of Plaza Mayor is the Mercado de […]
